Real GDP growth in first quarter reaches 3.5 pct

In the first quarter of 2016, Serbia’s real GDP grew 3.5 percent y-o-y, according to a flash estimate by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (RZS).

The calculation of quarterly GDP for Q1 2016, which is more detailed and compiled at lower levels of aggregation by deflation method, will be published on May 31, 2016.

In 2015, GDP grew 0.8 percent. The 2016 budget projected growth of 1.75 percent, which is now expected to be higher.

The European Commission yesterday raised the GDP growth forecast for Serbia for the whole of 2016 by 0.4 percentage points, from the previous 1.6 percent to 2.0 percent.

According to the European Commission forecasts, Serbia’s economy is expected to grow 2.5 percent in 2017.
