Serbian Prime Minister-designate Aleksandar Vucic on Monday received Mariam Sherman, the World Bank Director of Strategy and Operations in the Europe and Central Asia Region, who praised the course steered by Serbia and the reforms conducted by its government, in particular in the field of financial stability, preserved through fiscal consolidation.

One of the main topics of the meeting was the new government’s programme and the World Bank’s support to Prime Minister-designate Vucic.

Particular attention was devoted to the restructuring of public and state-owned enterprises such as the electric power company EPS, the Bor mining and smelting complex and the Resavica coal mines, where the World Bank is actively involved and cooperating with the relevant government ministries.

Vucic and Sherman discussed the upcoming Western Balkans summit in Paris and an action plan for so-called soft measures aimed at implementing trade and infrastructure links, to be presented by the World Bank at the summit.

Sherman announced that World Bank President Jim Kim would visit Belgrade in the second half of September, with strengthening the education system in Serbia as the priority topic of the visit, the Serbian government said in a statement.
