Serbia’s government plans to invest 18 million euro ($21.3 million) in the expansion of the Danube river port of Prahovo, the infrastructure ministry said.
“The project for the development of this port is worth about 18 million euro and includes the expansion of port infrastructure, as well as the construction of additional storage capacity,” the infrastructure ministry said in a statement earlier this week.
The preparation of the technical documentation for the project is already underway and the expansion works are expected to start at the end of 2021, the infrastructure ministry said in response to a question sent by local daily Politika.
In May, the infrastructure ministry launched a project for the removal of WWII shipwrecks from the Danube river bed near the port of Prahovo, financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB). The ministry signed a 1.5 million euro contract with a consortium of Germany’s M&P Ingenieurgesellschaft and Serbia’s Millennium Team for locating and testing munitions on WWII German ships sunken near Prahovo, SeeNews reports.
