Disparities in salaries across sectors: Programmers earn five times more than some service workers in Serbia

According to data from the Republic Statistical Office, the average net salary in Serbia for July revealed a stark contrast in earnings across different sectors. Programmers topped the list with an impressive average of 282,245 dinars, nearly five times more than employees in certain service industries, where the average salary was just 54,178 dinars.

In comparison to the national average of 97,835 dinars, several other sectors fell short. Construction workers earned an average of 85,530 dinars, while those in transportation made 84,067 dinars. Agricultural workers averaged 79,153 dinars, and retail employees earned about 80,958 dinars. Meanwhile, educators had an average salary of 91,215 dinars.

The manufacturing sector also reported a lower-than-average salary, with a general average of 86,726 dinars. However, there were significant disparities among its various branches. For instance, the average salary in wood processing (excluding furniture manufacturing) was 59,641 dinars, while tobacco product manufacturing saw much higher earnings, averaging 168,940 dinars.

Employees in mining also enjoyed substantial earnings, with an average salary of 129,917 dinars. Those working in oil and natural gas extraction earned even more, with an average of 173,858 dinars. Financial services workers (excluding insurance and pension funds) also reported high averages, earning around 152,921 dinars.
