Serbian Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matic and Director of the Port Management Agency Vuk Perovic signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of nautical tourism in inland waterways today, which will improve the economic environment and encourage investments in tourism and water transport in Serbia.
In that way, the visibility of Serbia’s nautical potentials will increase, and domestic and foreign tourists will get closer to the cultural sights and natural beauties of Serbia, the Port Management Agency announced.
“Products of nautical / river tourism in Serbia are in great discrepancy with the current needs of the tourist market. Nautical tourism is a development opportunity for Serbia whose great potential is reflected in the network of rivers of almost 1,600 kilometers and the Danube,” said Matic.
She also pointed out that the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications has allocated a total of 2.7 million euros for docks in the previous six years.
The director of the Agency, Vuk Perovic, stated that the memorandum will improve nautical tourism in Serbia, since it recognizes the importance of building and opening new international passenger ports and marinas.
“Serbia is a country of great nautical potentials, and cooperation with the ministry will contribute to making those potentials more visible and accessible to tourists. In the coming period, we will work intensively together on planning and improving the tourist infrastructure,” he said.
He added that marinas and international passenger ports are an important segment of passenger water transport and will complete Serbia’s nautical offer.
“The Agency’s activities will be focused on planning capital and priority projects and their implementation. We are convinced that the exchange of knowledge, experience and information with the Ministry will be crucial to fully use the tourist potentials of the Danube and Sava,” said Perovic.
It is also estimated that the construction and opening of new international passenger ports and marinas will contribute to the development of local self-governments and increase the total income from tourism in Serbia.
