Serbian Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Snezana Bogosavljevic-Boskovic met with businessmen and representatives of the southern Serbian municipalities of Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac on Wednesday.
Bogosavljevic-Boskovic told Tanjug that the businessmen were seeking to start production at once very productive slaughterhouse Jugokop.
The minister said that certain Italian companies wanted to take a lease of Jugokop assets and put the slaughterhouse back to work and that the Ministries of Agriculture and Economy would offer a model of cooperation.
The meeting also touched on improving veterinary inspection because of uncontrolled imports into central Serbia of agricultural products from the province of Kosovo-Metohija and neighboring Macedonia.
Tobacco producers sought government’s help because earlier privatization of tobacco factories made it impossible for them to sell their excellent quality tobacco, the agriculture minister said.
