Serbia’s national airline, Air Serbia, has transported more than 20,000 passengers on the direct intercontinental route between Belgrade and Shanghai during the first six months since its establishment, the company announced on Friday.

According to the statement, flights between the Serbian capital and the Chinese business hub have recorded high passenger load factors, with steady growth in demand that has intensified during the current summer season.

“The introduction of regular flights between Belgrade and Shanghai was an important step within our initiative to enhance Serbia’s global connectivity. The number of passengers who have used this route in the past six months clearly confirms its validity and strategic importance,” said Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiří Marek.

He added that the route has facilitated travel between the two countries, potentially strengthening economic and cultural exchange.

“We are confident that the significance of this route will continue to grow in the coming years, following trends in the development of cooperation between Europe and Asia,” Marek stated.

In addition to Shanghai, Air Serbia also operates long-haul flights to Guangzhou, New York and Chicago.
