Alpine builds railway bridge across the Velika Morava – Agreement worth 9 million euros signed with Serbian Railways

Public company Serbian Railways and Austrian Alpine signed an agreement today on construction of a railway bridge across the Velika Morava river, on Corridor 10, worth 9 million euros.

The agreement on construction of a bridge on Jovac-Cuprija railway section, which will be financed from a loan of the European Investment Bank, was signed by Serbian Railways Director General Milovan Markovic and representative of Alpine to Belgrade Nevenka Sindjic.

– Construction of a steel double-track railway bridge will commence in May 2011 and 150 people will be working on its construction, while all the works should be completed in 18 months – said Ms. Sindjic.

She added that the bridge would be 322.5 meters long and weigh 2,400 tons and that it would be part of double-track Gilje-Paracin section 10.2 km long of Belgrade-Nis railway.

Markovic said that the tender for works on construction of a railway bridge had been announced on July 9, 2010, and that the tender documentation had been bought by a total of 27 companies.

– The Managing Board of Serbian Railways made the decision at the meeting on November 25 on the allotment of agreements to the consortium comprising Austrian Alpine and Slovenian Meteorit – said Markovic.

The value of works on the construction of a new double-track railway on Gilje-Cuprija-Paracin section, including a bridge across the Velika Morava river, is about 45 million euros.
