The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, stated yesterday that the decision on the concession of the Belgrade airport “Nikola Tesla” by the company “Vinci” was a good economic move and that otherwise the airport would not have survived due to the pandemic crisis.
While visiting the works on the construction of the new terminal at the Belgrade airport, Brnabic pointed out that, thanks to the concession, a blow to the economy and the budget of Serbia, as well as to all employees, was avoided.
“The new terminal will be completed by 2024, and the area from the current 55,000 square meters will be increased to more than 100,000 square meters,” Brnabic said.
She added that the annual passenger capacity will be increased by six million to 14 million, and that the parking lot from 1,500 places will be expanded by another 800 places.
Brnabic stated that in 2019, the value of the performed works at the Belgrade airport was around 16 million euros, in 2020 slightly more than 60 million euros, and in 2021 an investment of 125 million euros is planned.
“Preparatory works are underway for the inserted runway, which will be equipped with the most modern radio-navigation devices, and this will be the first new runway at the airport after 60 years,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
Brnabic said that the level of charter traffic in 2021 at the airport will be at an all-time high, where it will have a recovery of 105 or 110 percent.
The Prime Minister of Serbia assessed as an excellent intention of the company “Vinci” to contribute to the protection of the environment by building energy supply plants, as well as a gas connection, instead of using fuel oil as before.
“The state will build a six-kilometer gas pipeline from Dobanovci to the airport, as well as a plant for the use of solar energy,” she said, emphasizing that 100 percent of the waste from the airport will be recycled, Danas reports.
