The Belgrade City Secretariat for Traffic has announced a public tender for the modernization of light traffic signals across the city’s street network, with an estimated value of 750 million dinars (around €6.4 million), reports Nova ekonomija.

The project covers 40 intersections equipped with traffic lights, all of which will be integrated into the city’s central control system.

An adaptive traffic management system will be implemented at 20 intersections, adjusting signal operation in real time according to traffic volume. This approach aims to shorten travel times and reduce the number of stops.

At the remaining 20 intersections, local detector-based control will be applied, allowing green light intervals to be adjusted depending on the number of vehicles approaching.

The planned upgrades include modular traffic light cabinets, LED signal transmitters, pedestrian push buttons, vehicle detector loops, and pedestrian detection systems powered by artificial intelligence.

According to the tender documentation, AI-based monitoring technology will be used to detect movement and identify potential hazards, enhancing safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users.

The project completion deadline is set at 18 months, while bids can be submitted until October 3.
