The Belgrade City Transport Company (GSP) has suspended the tender for the purchase of 100 new trams, worth 25 billion dinars (over 213 million euros), initially announced on February 12. The decision was made after receiving suggestions from potential bidders that indicated the need for further analysis of the technical solutions provided in the tender documents.
The suspension allows GSP to review the proposed technical solutions, conduct additional analyses, and adjust the procurement conditions to ensure maximum competition, efficiency, and the best technical solutions. The goal is to define the most optimal specifications that align with the needs of the public transport system and the expectations of end users.
The procurement was initially planned to be financed by a loan, and the GSP had also announced tenders for additional vehicles, totaling 39.5 billion dinars. The union “Centar – GSP Belgrade” welcomed the decision, criticizing the original tender as favoring a specific manufacturer and limiting competition. They called for the next tender to be prepared with expert consultation and advocated for localizing tram production in Serbia as a national development project.
