The City of Belgrade is expected to end the year with a fiscal deficit of 20 billion dinars, marking an unprecedented record in recent years, stated Nikola Jovanović, the director of the Center for Local Government. In a written statement, Jovanović emphasized that such a deficit reveals irresponsible fiscal policies and poor budget planning in Belgrade. He also pointed out that the deficit, resulting from increased public transportation costs and the poor management of public utility companies, will be difficult to resolve.

Jovanović further warned that these losses will have an even more dramatic impact on the city’s budget and operations in 2025. He did not rule out the possibility of a restructuring of the city government, or even the call for early elections.
