The world’s largest technology fair, Gitex Global, has chosen Belgrade as the host city for its first event in Southeast Europe. The fair, titled “Gitex AI Serbia”, will take place in 2027 during the Expo 2027 exhibition, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) announced today.

The decision was made at the opening of the 45th Gitex Global in Dubai and confirms Serbia’s growing position as a hub for innovation and new technologies in this part of Europe, PKS stated.

At this year’s Gitex Global, which brings together more than 1,000 exhibitors and 200,000 visitors, Serbia is participating as a partner country.

According to PKS, the organization of “Gitex AI Serbia” represents a historic milestone for Serbia and the entire Southeast European region, opening doors for international partnerships and showcasing the technological potential of Serbia and the region on the global stage.

Belgrade is expected to become a key meeting point for global leaders in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and startup innovation.

“The launch of Gitex Serbia 2027 marks a new chapter in our global expansion of the Gitex experience toward new centers of innovation. Serbia stands out as a dynamic bridge between East and West, and we are excited to bring the world’s largest technology and startup showcase to Belgrade,” said Gitex Global CEO Trixie LohMirmand after the announcement.

President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Marko Čadež emphasized that Serbia has transformed its education system over the past decade to meet the demands of the technological revolution.

“We introduced programming classes from the fifth grade of elementary school, tripled the number of IT professionals, and developed IT service exports worth up to five billion dollars annually. Our startup ecosystem has grown by 25 percent over the past five years,” Čadež said, noting the Chamber’s crucial role in securing the event’s organization.

Director of the Serbian Government’s Office for IT and eGovernment Mihailo Jovanović described the announcement as major news for Serbia, highlighting that the arrival of Gitex Global to Belgrade during Expo 2027 will bring significant benefits to the country’s economy by attracting leading global investors.

“This is a great opportunity for Serbia, for our economy, and for the further development of the ICT sector and innovation ecosystem,” Jovanović said at Serbia’s National Pavilion at Gitex Global, which runs until October 17.

He added that Serbia will continue working to make the ICT sector its fastest-growing industry, noting that last year the country’s ICT exports exceeded four billion euros.

Gitex Global, based in Dubai, is one of the world’s largest and most influential technology events, with a 45-year tradition. It serves as a key platform for connecting global tech companies, investors, and startups.

Expo 2027, the first specialized world exhibition to be held in Southeast Europe, will take place in Belgrade from May 15 to August 15, 2027, and is expected to attract more than four million visitors.
