Bugarin: Southern Stream engaging Serbian economy to a high extent

The commencement of construction of the Southern Stream gas line through Serbia will provide our country with energy stability, said the president of the Serbian Chamber of Commece, Miloš Bugarin, adding that the project will engage the construction sector and construction material industry to a large extent and increase the employment rate.

It will also entail more consumption, including that of food products and some other widely used goods, which is to boost economic activity in Serbia. The construction works are due to start on December 11 and the gas line through Serbia should be 411 km long, with 36 to 41 cubic meters’ annual capacity. The construction costs are estimated at some 1.9 billion euors and, according to Russian companyt Gazprom, the building of this section could attract up to 1.5 billion euros of direct investments. During 25 years of exploitations, the gas line could bring Serbia 4 billion euros’ incomes from gas transport.
