Serbia’s Minister of Internal and External Trade, Jagoda Lazarević, met with representatives of Carrefour, one of Europe’s leading retail chains, which has expressed interest in entering the Serbian market.

Lazarević stated that Carrefour plans for Serbia to become its central hub in the region and intends to engage a large number of Serbian companies as suppliers. The company also aims to operate directly, without intermediaries, and is considering local franchise partnerships.

“Carrefour’s arrival would strengthen market competition, increase consumer choice, and ensure better access to quality products at competitive prices,” Lazarević said, emphasizing that the ministry’s goal is to maintain a dynamic, fair, and stable market for citizens.

Further talks are expected by the end of the year, when members of Carrefour’s top management will visit Serbia to discuss concrete investment plans.
