China is renowned for impressing the world with its pavilions at international exhibitions. Its space at EXPO 2027 Belgrade is anticipated to stand out not only for its design but also for its unique thematic presentation of Chinese culture, including games, music, and sports.

Chinese culture, one of the oldest and most complex in the world, is influenced by its diverse ethnic groups and regional identities. Dance plays an integral role in Chinese culture, with its roots dating back to the Zhou Dynasty. Notable ancient dances include the “jaju,” performed at the imperial court, and traditional dances like the “dragon dance” and the “lion dance,” which are deeply embedded in Chinese history.

The “lion dance,” combining martial arts, colors, and the sounds of drums and gongs, and the “dragon dance,” a symbol of Chinese culture, are often seen during Chinese New Year celebrations in Serbia and will likely be part of the EXPO experience.

Music also holds a special place in Chinese culture, with origins dating back 9,000 years. Bone flutes discovered in Henan province attest to the importance of music, and philosopher Confucius believed that the right kind of music was essential for personal development. Traditional Chinese celebrations always feature music, with string instruments like the erhu, guzheng, pipa, and guqin, which are likely to be featured prominently at the EXPO.

Sport is the third key pillar of Chinese culture. China has always valued physical fitness, and the country holds its own National Games, akin to the Olympics, every four years. Known for excellence in sports such as table tennis and badminton, China has produced numerous champions in these fields. With over 300 million amateur table tennis players, China’s dominance in the sport is unparalleled.
