The Ministry of Mining and Energy announced that 99 percent of the construction work on six new oil storage tanks in Smederevo has been completed, with functional tests and equipment testing currently underway. This expansion will increase the total capacity of compulsory and commodity reserves by 120,000 cubic meters.

Saša Koković, Assistant Minister of Mining for Oil and Gas, highlighted that the new tanks for storing oil and derivatives will significantly enhance energy security, which is crucial for the country, its citizens, and the economy. He emphasized that this investment represents a step towards greater independence and resilience of the energy system, particularly in light of global instability and unpredictability.

Koković, alongside Dragiša Lazarević, Director of the Energy Reserves Administration, held discussions with representatives from the Serbian Oil Industry, as well as designers and contractors, to review the progress of the tank construction. The meeting focused on obtaining approval from the Ministry of the Interior to proceed with technical acceptance and secure the necessary permit for operation, paving the way for the tanks to be filled.
