The cornerstone for a textile factory was on Thursday laid in the Draganic village in the Raska municipality, southwestern Serbia, at a ceremony also attended by PM Aleksandar Vucic.

The 9 million euro, 11,500 sq m facility is a gift of the foundation headed by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates.

The production floor itself will have a surface of 6,200 sq m and it is designed for around 400 workers.

Designed to the highest European standards – with energy efficiency and use of renewables in mind – the facility will also include warehousing space and administrative and technical blocks.

The ceremony was also attended by UAE Ambassador to Serbia Juma Rashed Aldhaheri.

Once the centre of Serbia’s textile industry, Raska suffered a demise in the 1990s.
