“Delhaize Serbia” announced that a number of misleading data and confusion regarding margins, income, profit and prices have been circulated in the public, which, they claim, has misled some citizens. The company highlighted that the rising costs are undermining their efforts to reduce retail prices, citing increases in energy and transport prices, labor costs, and the cost of raw materials for products.

“Unfairly, our industry and we as a company are being singled out, stigmatized, and blamed for high prices. We understand and share customer dissatisfaction resulting from rising prices. However, we are only the last link in the food supply chain, and as such, we have a limited ability to influence these prices,” Delhaize Serbia emphasized.

The company also pointed out that 94 percent of the average retail price goes to others, specifically: suppliers for the goods they purchase (59 percent), the state for VAT (14 percent), employees for wages (10 percent), and compensation for all other expenses (11 percent).
