Elektrodistribucija Srbije (EDS) operates and maintains an extensive electric power network, which stretches across 168,000 kilometers and includes more than 37,000 substations. This network is four times longer than the Earth’s circumference.

EDS plays an active role in several key strategic projects within Serbia, including the development of the highway network, high-speed rail, new hospitals, new factories and the upcoming EXPO 2027.

As the distribution system operator, EDS supplies electricity to over 3.8 million users across the country.

In line with modernizing the energy infrastructure, EDS has implemented a project to introduce smart meters, with approximately 600,000 devices already installed through an EU donation. By the end of 2026, an additional 600,000 smart meters will be installed with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), bringing the total to 30% of the network equipped with smart meters.

The ultimate goal of this initiative is for 80% of the meters to be online, significantly enhancing the efficiency and management of Serbia’s electricity distribution system.
