The Kragujevac car factory is set to produce another new model in addition to the “Grande Panda” – the electric “Citroen C3”. According to RTS, assembly of the new model has already begun. The factory, owned by Stellantis – a group that includes several brands such as Fiat, Citroen, Peugeot, Opel and Jeep – will manufacture both the Fiat Panda and the electric Citroen C3, which shares the same platform as the Fiat Panda.
The factory in Kragujevac is equipped for this dual production, and Stellantis had previously outlined plans for this collaboration. Saša Đorđević, the president of the Association of Independent Trade Unions of Kragujevac, explained to Tanjug that both the “Grande Panda” and the Citroen C3 are based on the same platform. The C3 electric model’s production at the Kragujevac plant is part of Stellantis’ strategy to utilize the factory’s capacity.
Đorđević stated that Kragujevac will handle a significant portion of the bodywork for the Citroen C3, as it shares a platform with the Fiat Panda and other Stellantis vehicles. This collaboration with the Trnava factory in Slovakia will ensure that when production capacity in Slovakia is stretched, Kragujevac will step in to meet demand.
“This is a positive development for our factory,” Đorđević noted. “It means more work for our workers, and our production capacity will be better utilized.” He also mentioned that the electric Citroen C3 is expected to be produced in Kragujevac soon, possibly later this year.
Kragujevac will soon begin manufacturing the Citroën C3 electric model, which will be shipped to markets across Europe and around the world.
