Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) is conducting an analysis to explore the feasibility of utilizing facilities for hydrogen production and storage in its energy production capacities, announced the company’s General Director, Dušan Živković.
Speaking at the opening of the second International Conference on Hydrogen, titled “Green Hydrogen as a Roadmap for Energy Transition” in Belgrade, Živković emphasized the importance of assessing potential locations, plant sizes, and usage methods. The goal is to enhance energy storage, diversify storage solutions, reduce fossil fuel reliance, increase energy production efficiency, and better integrate variable renewable energy sources into the EPS power balance.
Živković further noted that hydrogen technologies are a key component of Serbia’s energy transition and decarbonization process. “The introduction of hydrogen is not just a challenge for the energy sector but for the entire economy and society,” he stated.
EPS is aiming to lead this transformation, with Živković expressing confidence that hydrogen can play a significant role in Serbia’s energy future in the next 10 to 15 years.
The director also highlighted the importance of ensuring energy security during this transition, with EPS contributing to regional energy stability through strategic projects like the reversible hydroelectric power plant ‘Bistrica’ and a one-gigawatt solar project. He concluded that EPS is focused on long-term energy security while maintaining profitability.
