Preparations for Expo 2027 Belgrade, scheduled from 15 May to 15 August 2027, are entering their most execution-sensitive period. The exhibition site and directly supporting infrastructure have been estimated at approximately €1.29 billion, covering the pavilions, utilities, aquatic centre, roads and the rail connection between Zemun, Nikola Tesla Airport and the Expo complex.
The wider Surčin programme also includes the National Stadium and Expo Village. These assets could improve western Belgrade’s transport and development profile after the event, but their long-term value depends on credible post-Expo uses rather than the three-month exhibition alone.
Construction deadlines are now sufficiently tight that delays, redesigns or procurement disputes could materially increase costs. Serbia’s recent infrastructure controversies have made independent supervision and transparent certification commercially important, particularly for international contractors and lenders.
Expo spending should support construction, hospitality and domestic demand through 2027. It simultaneously concentrates fiscal and execution risk in a narrow timetable, making cost control and the eventual utilisation of the completed assets more important than the headline number of participating countries.
