Serbia’s Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said that within the next two weeks a working group of the Chinese Development Bank will arrive in Belgrade to work out a way for the establishment of a free economic zone with all accompanying infrastructure on the Danube.Vucic said in an interview with Radio Television B92 that during his working visit to China, in addition to meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang, he also met with representatives of the China Development Bank.

He explained that that should be an economic free zone and port on the Danube, with complete infrastructure, so that the goods can be sent to Konstanz and also to Western Europe.

This zone would need to be linked with the railway and roads we are building, which will provide much higher incomes and increased employment in our country, Vucic said.

According to him, experts of the Chinese Development Bank should sign in December an agreement on this matter with the National Bank of Serbia.

Speaking about the Belgrade-Budapest railway, Vucic said that he discussed this with Prime Minister Keqiang, and reiterated that our country has a limit on the financing model for the project, for which the Chinese Development Bank is also expected to provide assistance.

He confirmed that there is an interest among Chinese companies for the purchase of Serbia’s companies in restructuring, noting that the companies that are on the list of 502 companies in privatisation have also been offered for sale.

Vucic said that Chinese investors have been offered five Serbian construction companies, mainly in restructuring, but also socially-owned companies from the-above mentioned list, which are in the process of privatisation.
