First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Siniša Mali met with Annette Kyobe, the newly appointed head of the IMF Mission to Serbia, to discuss ongoing reforms in the Tax Administration. Mali revealed that a new system would be implemented as part of the Tax Administration’s reform to enhance its efficiency, including plans to hire 1,000 additional young employees this year.

Mali emphasized that the Tax Administration reform, which has been underway for several years, is entering a critical phase. The focus now is on modernizing the system to streamline processes and improve communication with citizens. “We are introducing an application that will consolidate all tax forms in one place, allowing users to easily track the status of their tax obligations,” said Mali.

The minister also highlighted that the goal is to make this mobile application available to citizens within the next two to three years, enabling them to manage their tax matters directly from their phones.

In his meeting with Kyobe, Mali provided a detailed update on the progress of the Tax Administration reform. “The reform has been ongoing for the past six or seven years, and we are now entering the final stage. We’ve selected a company through a tender process that will introduce the so-called COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) system, which will serve as the backbone for the new information system of the Tax Administration,” he explained.

Currently, there are 191 separate accounts for citizens and businesses to pay various obligations to the Tax Administration. The goal is to simplify this by reducing the number of accounts to just one, two, or three, making the process more efficient and user-friendly.

The reform marks a significant step towards modernizing Serbia’s Tax Administration and improving the overall experience for taxpayers.
