Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamočić emphasized that future agrarian policy measures will be based on the expertise of competent professionals rather than pressure or public demonstrations. He highlighted that food sovereignty will be a priority and the development strategy is being finalized to focus on what the country lacks or needs improvement in.
Regarding the dairy sector, Glamočić pointed out the current shortage of milk and the challenges posed by reduced exports and aflatoxin contamination, which hinder Serbia’s ability to export. He also raised concerns about the growing presence of dairy products with palm oil in stores, noting that 25% of milk purchases involve these products. He called for clear labeling to indicate when products contain palm oil.
Glamočić criticized past agricultural subsidies that favored wheat and corn production for export, which led to Serbia importing products that were initially subsidized. He announced plans to collaborate with the most competent people and institutions to reform agrarian policies, with a goal to implement changes in the upcoming budget cycle.
