The Turkish company Fortis Energy has expressed interest in investing in renewable energy capital projects in the Bujanovac area, as announced by the mayor of the municipality, Arber Pajaziti. Following a meeting with the Turkish consul in Serbia, Attila Kucuktalasli, and Seckin Donmez from Fortis Energy, Pajaziti stated that the project has the full support of the Turkish Embassy.
“Bujanovac has incredible potential for the production of solar and wind energy, as it is one of the areas with the most sunny days in the region. This provides us with a unique opportunity to attract strategic investments and create new jobs for our citizens,” Pajaziti said on Facebook.
He emphasized that this initiative represents “just the first step of a larger project, which has the support of the Turkish Embassy in Belgrade.”
In August 2024, Fortis Energy and its subsidiary, Fortis Energy and Construction doo Belgrade, along with the Chinese company PowerChina International Group Limited, signed a framework agreement for cooperation in developing and constructing wind and solar power projects in Serbia and the wider region.
Fortis Energy is already involved in several projects in Serbia, including the development of wind farms with a total capacity of 509 MW and solar projects totaling 387 MWp.
In August last year, Fortis Energy announced that it had secured preliminary permits for three wind power projects in Serbia, totaling 509.4 MW. EMS (Elektromreza Srbije) officially confirmed the connection of two wind farms to the national power grid: the 171 MW Fortis Vranje wind farm and the 194.4 MW Gornjak wind farm. Additionally, the preliminary permit process for the 144 MW Juhor wind farm project is currently underway.
At the end of July last year, Fortis Energy also announced the acquisition of a 180 MW solar project in Sremska Mitrovica, which will include a battery energy storage system (BESS). The company expects this to be one of the largest solar power plants and energy storage systems in Southeast Europe. Fortis plans to install a BESS with a capacity of 36 MWh, and construction of the solar complex is expected to begin in 2025.
The three wind farms in Jagodina, Petrovac, and Vranje are projected to be completed by 2026.
In May 2024, Fortis Energy also announced that it was in the final stages of acquiring two biogas power plants in Pančevo.
