French waste-management and recycling group Paprec is entering the Serbian market by acquiring an 80 percent stake in Austria’s Brantner green solutions, which operates locally through Brantner otpadna privreda.

Paprec has signed an agreement with the Brantner family to purchase a controlling interest in the Austrian group’s environmental-services division. The family will retain the remaining 20 percent and continue supporting the company’s development.

The transaction, which is still subject to customary regulatory approvals, will give Paprec its first presence in Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Serbia. It also represents a significant expansion of the French group’s operations across Central and Eastern Europe.

Founded in 1936, Brantner green solutions provides waste collection, sorting, recycling, and recovery services. The company employs nearly 2,500 people at 65 sites and serves more than 28,000 businesses, public authorities, and other customers across five countries. Its annual revenue exceeds €320 million.

For Paprec, the acquisition is its largest investment since its partnership with French waste-management company Coved in 2016. The group has already expanded beyond France into markets including Switzerland, Spain, and Italy.

Paprec plans to use its recycling technologies and more than three decades of industry experience to accelerate Brantner’s development and provide additional waste-management solutions to companies and local authorities throughout the region.

Once the transaction is completed, Paprec is expected to employ approximately 26,000 people in 15 countries and generate annual revenue of more than €4.5 billion.
