Serbia’s Minister of Economy, Adriana Mesarović, announced that representatives from the leading Chinese car manufacturer, Geely, will visit Serbia in March this year to discuss potential investments. Mesarović made this announcement during her visit to Hangzhou, China, the headquarters of Geely, where she held a meeting with the company’s Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, Shen Juan, and his associates. The discussion focused on future cooperation, particularly regarding the 2027 World Expo in Belgrade.

“They introduced us to their future plans, including the continued development and production of electric vehicles, characterized by innovative design approaches. We expect the visit of Geely representatives in March to continue discussions about their potential investment in Serbia. We are committed to securing new investments and creating job opportunities,” said Mesarović, according to the Ministry of Economy’s website.

The Ministry’s statement also highlighted that Geely is the first Chinese automotive brand to sell 10 million cars and has been the top-selling Chinese brand of passenger vehicles for five consecutive years. The company is fully committed to sustainability and environmental protection, investing heavily in eco-friendly technologies.

In addition to traditional vehicles, Geely produces electric cars and is developing autonomous driving technology. The company also invests in the development and production of batteries and infrastructure for electric vehicle charging.

Geely has acquired several major automotive brands, including Swedish Volvo Cars, British Lotus, and a minority stake in Daimler AG, which owns the Mercedes-Benz brand.

It should be noted that representatives from Geely visited Serbia last June and held talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. “The development of the automotive industry is a key element of our economic strategy and one of the main indicators of our commitment to modernization and strengthening this sector, which will attract further foreign investments,” said Vučić at the time.

He also stated that Serbia aims to become a regional hub for the automotive industry with the help of modern technologies and international partnerships.
