Government readies “severance packages” for Serbian Railways

Minister Zorana Mihajlovic and World Bank Serbia Office head Tony Verheijen met on Monday and discussed “further steps in the reforming Serbian Railways.”

Mihajlovic, who is in charge of construction, transport and infrastructure, said that the Serbian government “takes care about the employees in railway companies.”

According to the government’s website, she also “underlined that all workers who will leave will have a social welfare program and severance packages.”

“We are getting close to an agreement on the amount of severance packages and the type of social welfare program that will be offered to employees, but our main goal is that those packages and programs are acceptable for them and in line with legal provisions and financial possibilities,” she said.

Verheijen stated that the World Bank was “aware that Serbia has worked a lot on the restructuring of the Serbian Railways and pointed out that there are many new projects that need to be implemented.”
