Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Director of the festival “Exit” Dusan Kovacevic announced today that the Serbian government will financially support the festival in the next six years.
After a meeting with representatives of the “Exit” festival and Mayor of Novi Sad Milos Vucevic, Vucic said that stable funding will enable further expansion and significant participation in projects such as the Novi Sad candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2021.
The Prime Minister confirmed that the agreement on cooperation and support to “Exit” for the next three plus three years will be signed in the coming days, to his great satisfaction, because international awards to this youth festival made him proud as a citizen and as the Prime Minister of Serbia.
You have made us proud once again because of the results that you achieved and the fact that you put Serbia on a special place and raised its profile in Europe and the world, Vucic said.
According to Vucic, the development of “Exit” is important for young people, but also for improving the tourist offer of Serbia and income, with the development of road infrastructure, which results in the growing youth employment and more money in the budget.
For us it is important that we talk about the development of tourism and economic potential of youth employment. We will invest a lot of money. We will give Belgrade €3 million for special façades, €2.5 to €3 million to Nis, and the city of Novi Sad will inform us about the projects, he said.
Vucic explained that the Serbian government wants to ensure that that those young people who want to stay in Serbia have a future in Serbia.
This is important for further improving the reputation of Serbia in the world, “Exit” is one of our biggest brands, he said, adding that he hopes that this year’s festival will be one of the best.
Also, the Prime Minister added that once the Belgrade-Budapest rail line is completed, more people will be able to go to “Exit”.
The Prime Minister explained that “Exit” is important for the candidacy of Novi Sad for the youth capital of Europe in 2019, as well as for the European Capital of Culture 2021.
The government will support this in its next session, the Prime Minister said.
Kovacevic thanked the government of Serbia for support and stressed the great importance of stable funding.
He recalled that, according to some research, “Exit” in previous years contributed to the budget with €150 million.
He also recalled that “Exit” this year received the prestigious award of the European tourist organisation “Best European Destinations” for the best music festival in Europe.
