Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced that he and Serbian Energy Minister Dubravka Đedović-Handanović have agreed to speed up the construction of a joint Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline. The Hungarian section, spanning 190 kilometers, is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, Szijjártó noted on the X network.
He highlighted that gas deliveries through Serbia have reached a record 21 million cubic meters per day, marking the highest annual volume ever transported to Hungary via the TurkStream pipeline. Szijjártó also pointed out that Ukraine has repeatedly targeted an oil pipeline serving Hungary and Slovakia and has closed a critical gas pipeline supplying Central Europe, emphasizing that these developments increase the importance of Hungarian-Serbian energy cooperation.
Minister Đedović-Handanović has previously stated that building the Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline is a priority project for the energy sector.
