Hungary has officially supported Serbia’s request for an extension of the license for the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS), issued by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), announced Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović.

The minister expressed gratitude to Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and the Hungarian government for their support, emphasizing that it confirms the strategic partnership and mutual understanding between the two countries during challenging times.

She highlighted that Hungary recognizes the serious potential consequences that disruptions in NIS operations could have, not only on the Serbian market but also on the wider region.

Đedović Handanović expressed hope that with this support, additional time will be secured to establish a sustainable long-term solution that protects the interests of citizens and businesses in Serbia and the entire region.

The current license for NIS expires on June 27, and the Serbian government previously sent a letter of support to the U.S. OFAC requesting a new extension for the energy company.
