Hungary’s oil company MOL will increase oil supplies to Serbia following U.S. sanctions on Serbian oil company NIS, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said. He emphasized MOL’s key role in maintaining Serbia’s crude oil and fuel reserves and promised higher deliveries despite challenges.
Szijjártó noted that the increased supply would not fully offset the shortfall caused by the halted oil flow via the Janaf pipeline through Croatia, highlighting the risks of relying on a single supply route.
The U.S. sanctions on NIS, due to its majority Russian ownership, came into effect recently. Janaf, which transports between 2–3 million tons of oil, received a license extension to supply Serbia until October 15.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that the Pančevo refinery could operate until November 1 without additional oil deliveries and that fuel supply would remain sufficient until the New Year.
