If Fiat leaves Serbia, the state would buy its share in the joint company and then resell the entire factory

The management of the company Stelantis, within which all Fiat Chrysler factories around the world have been operating since the beginning of the year, informed the Government of Serbia that the decision on whether and when the Fiat car factory in Kragujevac will start production of the new car model will be known for several months.
If Stelantis decides to leave Kragujevac, the Government of Serbia, according to our sources, has a plan B.
In that case, the government would buy his share in the joint company from Fiat and then resell the entire factory to another car manufacturer.
So far, close to 1.5 billion euros have been invested in Fiat’s factory in Kragujevac.
Volkswagen is mentioned as a possible buyer, which has been announcing the construction of a new factory in the Balkans in the last few years.
In mid-2019, the Germans, choosing a location for that factory, between Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Northern Macedonia and Turkey, opted for this last country, but less than a year and a half ago, for political reasons, they decided to “freeze” the decision to build the factory in Turkey, after which Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria re-entered the race, offering the Germans a share of one billion euros.
The Kragujevac car factory could also be offered to one of the Chinese manufacturers, who also “flew” around Zastava for years until the arrival of Fiat.
There are, furthermore, Japanese companies, and South Korean Hyundai and Indian Tata motors, which also negotiated a Strategic Partnership Flag.
The European Union would most likely put pressure on Serbia over the possible sale of the Kragujevac car factory to the Chinese, but those pressures, according to insiders, could be annulled by the fact that “their” company (Stelantis) would be responsible for such a situation that left several thousand families without jobs and livelihoods, Danas reports.
