Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic announced that four billion euros will be invested in environmental projects in the next five years.
Visiting the works on the reconstruction of the bridge in the center of Mladenovac, Momirovic said that Serbia will be much cleaner in five years.
“I don’t know how we came to have environmental protests with all the projects we have initiated and are implementing?” Momirovic asked, pointing out that wastewater treatment plants would be built in Belgrade.
As he added, for five decades, 80 percent of untreated waters have been flowing into nature, ie into the rivers Sava and Danube, and that, he says, will change now.
“It is being built in Belgrade, Veliko Selo, wastewater treatment plants are being built in practically all municipalities, such environmental projects will be completed in the next few years by order of the President of the Republic,” Momirovic said in Mladenovac.
The Government of Serbia understands that investments in road, railway and air infrastructure do not make sense if investments in environmental infrastructure are not made at the same time, said Momirovic and added that such projects are high on the priority scale.
During the tour of the works on the bridge in Mladenovac, Momirovic said that no investment had been made in that overpass for decades, and that a “cosmetic reconstruction” was carried out in 2009, when only the asphalt was covered.
“When we determined the damage, we saw that the bridge had collapsed in a constructive sense. We cannot play with the citizens of Mladenovac, Belgrade and Serbia and just cover the asphalt and risk a much bigger accident tomorrow,” said Momirovic.
The Minister says that they quickly started designing and today they are starting work.
“We asked the people from Strabag to carry out these works efficiently, to repair them immediately so that they can repair them as soon as possible. I hope that we will be able to finish this in the next few months,” Momirovic said.
According to him, investments will soon begin in four wastewater treatment plants in Mladenovac, Velika Ivanca, Velika Krsna and Jagnjevo, as well as in 70 kilometers of sewage infrastructure, RTS reports.
