Industrial production in Serbia increased in June due to growth in the energy sector

Real GDP growth in the second quarter of 2023 was 1.7 percent year-on-year according to the preliminary estimate of the Republic Institute of Statistics, and industrial production recorded year-on-year growth of 0.5 percent in June, led by growth in the energy sector, which amounted to 12 percent year-on-year.

On the other hand, in the mining sector there was a decrease of 13.4 percent year-on-year, while the activity in the processing industry stagnated.

In the manufacturing industry, production in June increased year-on-year in 10 out of 24 areas, with the largest positive contribution coming from the production of basic metals, electronic and pharmaceutical products, and motor vehicles, while the lower production of food products, oil derivatives, and metal products acted in the opposite direction products.

In the January-June period this year, industrial production recorded a year-on-year growth of 1.7 percent, led by a 16.9 percent growth in the energy sector, while the mining and manufacturing sectors recorded a slight decline of 0.5 percent and 1.0 percent. interannual.

Turnover in retail trade in June was lower by 6.0 percent in real terms than in the same month of the previous year, while in the period January-June it decreased in real terms by 5.1 percent year-on-year.
The total number of tourist arrivals in June was 4.7 percent higher year-on-year, and the total number of overnight stays by 0.9 percent.

In the period January-June, the total number of tourist arrivals increased by 13.9 percent year-on-year, and the number of overnight stays by tourists increased by 10.5 percent year-on-year.

When it comes to foreign trade trends, according to the data of the Republic Institute of Statistics, merchandise exports in June achieved year-on-year growth of 3.3 percent, led by exports of the processing industry, within which 17 out of 23 areas recorded year-on-year growth.

In June, goods imports recorded a year-on-year decrease of 6.5%, mostly due to a decrease in the import of energy and other raw materials.

Observed in the first half of 2023, merchandise exports increased by 9.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while merchandise imports in the same period decreased by 5.0 percent year-on-year.
