The first exploration drilling campaign has begun at the South Timok copper-gold project in eastern Serbia, marking a key milestone in the advancement of one of the country’s most prospective mineral exploration areas. The drilling programme is being conducted under a strategic partnership between Canadian exploration company Mundoro Capital and global mining group BHP, with BHP financing the exploration and Mundoro acting as project operator.

The initial phase of work includes up to 2,500 metres of diamond drilling, targeting several priority zones identified through extensive geological, geochemical, and geophysical surveys carried out over the past two years. The objective is to test for porphyry-style copper and gold mineralisation, a deposit type typically associated with large-scale, long-life mining operations.

The South Timok project covers four contiguous exploration licences spanning approximately 306 square kilometres, located around 40 to 70 kilometres south of the Bor mining complex, one of Europe’s most established copper-gold districts. The area forms part of the wider Timok Magmatic Complex, which has attracted increasing interest from international mining companies due to its proven mineral potential.

The start of drilling represents a critical step in assessing the project’s geological potential and will generate data essential for determining the next phases of exploration, potential resource definition, and longer-term development decisions.
