Janaf, Croatia’s oil pipeline company, is reportedly considering purchasing the Russian stake in the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS). According to Janaf’s CEO, Šušnjar, this could be a natural business symbiosis, with Janaf working in partnership with other co-owners without aiming for dominance, unlike other companies that have been mentioned in public discussions.
It remains unclear whether any discussions have taken place between Janaf and NIS regarding this potential deal. What is known is that NIS is one of Janaf’s key clients.
In January of the previous year, Janaf signed a contract with NIS for the transportation of 10 million tons of oil until December 2026. The deal was described as a record contract, reinforcing Janaf’s importance as a key player in the energy sector of Croatia and the region. This contract guarantees the safety and profitability of Janaf’s business in the upcoming years.
NIS has been a long-time client of Janaf, and the volume of oil transported has increased significantly in recent years. For example, the previous contract signed in December 2022, valid until the end of 2024, was for 6.2 million tons of oil. In 2022, the agreement covered 3.2 million tons, and in 2021, it was 2.75 million tons. Janaf has recently announced that since December 2022, its system has exclusively transported non-Russian oil to Serbia.
