Koridori Srbije LLC, the company responsible for the construction of the Vožd Karađorđe expressway, has submitted a request to the relevant ministry to define the scope and content of the environmental impact assessment study for sections five and six of this major state road project.

This marks the second phase of the ambitious expressway, initially announced as a highway. The planned route from Lazarevac to Bor spans nearly 164 kilometers, featuring three tunnels, over 130 bridges, and 21 interchanges. According to the spatial plan, the project is divided into four sectors, each consisting of two sections.

Sector 3 (km 0+000 to km 36+890) includes Section 5 (km 0+000 to km 29+000), which starts at the existing “Mali Požarevac” interchange and ends at the planned “Orašac” interchange. Section 6 (km 29+000 to km 36+890) begins at the “Orašac” interchange and ends at the roundabout leading into Aranđelovac.

Former Minister Goran Vesić stated that the construction permit for the second phase, covering the stretch from Aranđelovac to Mali Požarevac (Sector 3), was expected to be issued on April 1 this year.

In October of last year, Vesić announced the completion of the construction permit project and readiness to begin work. He said preparatory work permits for the billion-euro project would be issued by December 15 of last year, and approval for the first phase, from Čibutkovica to Orašac (45.8 km), was expected by March 1 this year.

The Vožd Karađorđe expressway project was initially announced in 2019 during the opening of the Miloš Veliki highway section from Obrenovac to Ljig. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić emphasized at that time that the new highway would connect Šumadija with eastern Serbia.

Last October, shortly before Vesić’s announcement, Vučić expected the construction to begin in the summer of next year. He added that location conditions were being finalized and construction permits would soon be obtained, with hopes to start the highway’s construction during the summer.

Vučić also mentioned plans to begin construction of the section from Čibutkovica to Miloš Veliki (46 km to Aranđelovac) as well as 36.5 km from Mali Požarevac.
