French building materials group Lafarge is proposing to sell its assets in Romania and Austria as part of its planned merger with Swiss based peer Holcim, the two companies said on Monday. For its part, Holcim is set to sell its assets in Serbia, a joint statement said.
These proposed divestments, alongside the proposed sale of other assets in Austria, Germany, France, Hungary, the UK and outside of Europe, are subject to review and further discussions with the regulatory authorities and to the agreement of our business partners when relevant, the statement indicated.
The list of proposed asset disposals was drawn up by a divestment committee set up by both companies, following the announcement of their planned merger on April 7.
Holcim operates a cement factory with an annual output capacity of 1.35 million tonnes in Serbia’s Popovac and also has concrete production operations in the Belgrade area.
In Romania, Lafarga has concrete, cement and aggregates production operations.
Among others, the cement factory of Lafarge, in Manndersdorf, Austria is supposed to be sold. This way, the greoups want to take proactive measures to be able to meet the requirements of anti-trust authorities.
