Seven or eight investors are interested in buying Serbia’s Smederevo Iron Works and the tender will be scheduled after interviews with the prospective buyers and a decision of the Serbian government, agency Tanjug learns from the Economy Ministry. Economy Minister Dušan Vujović has announced this week that a tender for the Iron Works will be scheduled in the next two months, but would not mention any details. The interested parties include Austrian Investment Fund Westwood, Russian “Uralvagon zavod” and US Esmark Group. Ever since US Steel left Smederevo in February 2012, some EUR 200 million for the survival of the Iron Works have been set aside for the budget. The Iron Works employs some 5,000 people.
