The Ministry of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure has rejected the request by Serbian Railways Infrastructure (IŽS) to carry out reconstruction work on the platform beams at Belgrade Center station, also known as Prokop, due to an incomplete application, according to Forbes Serbia. The Ministry found that the formal requirements were not met.
The submitted documentation listed all cadastral parcels of the station complex, instead of only the parcels where the specific structure is located. Additionally, an extract from the archival project or documentation showing the current state of the beams must be included.
IŽS has 30 days to submit a revised, compliant application without resubmitting previously submitted documents or paying additional administrative fees.
The beams in question were built in 1997, and cracks have appeared in the lower midspan areas, making reinforcement necessary. IŽS has stated that the station remains safe and fully operational for train traffic.
A tender for the reinforcement work was announced at the end of July. The estimated cost of the project, as previously stated by IŽS, is 28 million dinars. The tender proposes constructing new support columns beneath the midspan of the beams.
