Montenegro rejects possibility of Serbia in airport concession tender

The Montenegrin Ministry of Transport has firmly denied any involvement or interest from Serbia in the ongoing tender for 30-year concessions for the airports in Podgorica and Tivat. In a statement to Dan, the Ministry clarified that no official or unofficial initiatives from Serbian institutions or representatives were submitted during the tender process.

The Ministry responded to recent remarks by Serbian Finance Minister Siniša Mali, who said Serbia was interested in the airport concessions as part of broader regional cooperation. However, the Ministry emphasized that Mali’s statement has been misinterpreted and politicized, stating that the comment is being used for internal political purposes unrelated to the concession process.

Additionally, the Ministry noted that Serbia had already handed over its main airport to a concessionaire and reiterated that Montenegro received no expressions of interest from Serbia. The speculation, largely driven by Montenegrin opposition parties, suggested that “pro-Serbian” elements in the government were attempting to sabotage the tender to enable Serbia’s entry — claims the Ministry indirectly refuted.
