Mothers in Serbia face long delays for state subsidies on first home purchases

Several mothers in Serbia who applied last year for state subsidies to buy their first property based on childbirth are now facing prolonged waiting times. According to reports to Nova.rs, the Commission responsible for awarding these subsidies, under the Ministry for Family Care and Demography, has not met since February, and authorities have provided no updates.

Due to the delays, contractors are withdrawing from projects, and mothers risk losing their deposits on apartments. Although this financial support program started in 2022, mothers claim the process has stalled since the Ministry for Family Care and Demography took over responsibility for the program.
