The notification sent to NIS employees is not related to any expectation of a state of war or emergency, the Oil Industry of Serbia announced. The company stated that the measure stems from legal regulations and the 2014 government decision on large technical systems of importance for defense.
NIS explained that the measure is preventive and serves solely to comply with legal obligations, which apply to all entities designated as important for national defense. It does not indicate any anticipated emergency or war situation.
The company added that the notification outlines activities to be implemented by November 15, based on a deadline set by the Defense Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense. The Inspectorate conducted a regular, announced field inspection of NIS’s defense preparations and listed this as a necessary measure.
The Defense Inspectorate carries out inspections in all entities of importance for national defense once every seven years. The obligation to notify employees about work requirements during a state of war or emergency has existed since 2010, under the Law on Military, Labor, and Material Obligation.
NIS did not explain why the notification was issued this Friday, amid escalating violence in Serbian cities, nor did it comment on whether management fears a state of emergency could be declared in the coming months.
