Online purchases in Serbia soar in Q3 2024, with dinar transactions leading the way

The increased use of cards and electronic money led to a total of 22.2 million online purchases during the third quarter of 2024.

Of this total, online purchases made in dinars saw a 52.3% increase, while their value rose by 54.5% compared to the third quarter of 2023. In absolute terms, there were 15.2 million transactions worth 44.1 billion dinars in the third quarter of 2024.

Regarding payments on foreign websites, purchases in euros and US dollars are the most common. Compared to the third quarter of 2023, the number of transactions in euros increased by 70.9% (4.7 million versus 2.7 million purchases), and their value grew by 46.2% (215.8 million versus 147.6 million euros). Purchases in US dollars grew more slowly than in dinars and euros, with a 3.2% increase (1.9 million versus 1.8 million payments), while their value rose by 22.7% (54.4 million versus 44.3 million dollars) compared to the third quarter of 2023.

Of all the online purchases made in the third quarter of 2024, more than two-thirds (68.3%) were in the domestic currency. These figures do not include purchases made with cash on delivery.
