The “Munjino brdo” tunnel on the Pakovraće-Požega highway is set to open on June 28, marking the final step in completing the highway from Čačak to Požega, announced Miodrag Poledica, Assistant Director of JP “Roads of Serbia.” The tunnel, which stretches over 2.7 kilometers, began receiving its asphalt surface two days ago. The road to the “Prilepac” interchange must also be finished before the tunnel’s opening, which is expected to fully open the route to traffic by June 28.
Poledica highlighted that the “Miloš Veliki” highway, connecting Belgrade to Požega over a 150-kilometer stretch, will significantly reduce travel time, cutting the distance to one hour. The highway’s construction is crucial due to the challenging geographical terrain of the area.
Additionally, Poledica pointed to the increased safety the highway will provide, citing a 40% decrease in accidents on the Ibar highway. Over 40 engineers and technical personnel are actively supervising the tunnel’s construction daily, ensuring all work meets rigorous safety and environmental standards through 75 different types of tests in 13 categories.
