Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that during his visit to Beijing, he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping to request additional investments aimed at boosting employment, raising living standards, and accelerating economic growth in Serbia.

Vučić highlighted that Chinese companies employ around 40,000 people in Serbia, up from 31,000 last year. Major investors include HBIS in Smederevo, Zijin in Bor and Čukaru Peki, and Linglong in Zrenjanin. Discussions included energy, artificial intelligence in healthcare and education, and advanced technologies like flying cars, which Serbia aims to introduce by the 2026 Expo. Focus is on bringing new investments, increasing local employment, and ensuring environmentally sustainable operations in mining and industrial sectors.

Vučić confirmed ongoing negotiations with Russia for a new gas supply agreement, expected to be signed by the end of September, aiming for fair prices, reliable supply, and flexibility in volumes to cover households, industry, and power plants.

Vučić stressed that his visit to China will not affect Serbia’s European path, noting that the entire European Commission recently visited Beijing for talks.

During the visit, Vučić attended a large military parade, highlighting China’s advanced missile, drone, and radar technologies, which he described as a demonstration of strategic strength rather than purchases for Serbia.

On comments by Slovenia’s president regarding Serbia, Vučić emphasized Serbia’s commitment to dialogue and minority rights, while rejecting interference in Serbia’s internal affairs.

The visit focuses on securing investments, expanding employment, technological cooperation, and energy security, while maintaining Serbia’s commitment to the EU.
