Production of wheat drops by 19.6 percent

Serbia expects to produce 2.1 million tons of wheat in 2014, down 19.6 percent against last year, a result of inclement weather, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (RZS) has said in a release.

Estimates show that raspberry production will amount to 62,202 tons, a decrease of 9.1 percent. Sour cherry production will total 95,934 tons, 2.4 percent less than last year. The spring sowing saw corn planted on 1.2 million hectares of land, 1.2 percent more than last year, as at the estimation date of June 23. The area planted with sugar beet increased by two percent to 63,810 hectares. Sunflower and soybean were planted on 175,946 and 153,707 hectares, 6.5 percent and 4.6 percent less than last year, respectively.
